First you know that you are talking about a [plugin
version|http://maven.apache.org/plugins-archives/maven-assembly-plugin-2.1/assembly.html]
which is about 9 years old? Furthermore to be honest I don't see any kind of
information in the documentation which supports this scenario which you are
describing ? The maven-assembly-plugin does not support such configuration file
or to be more accurate that I know...Can you give more details about the
scenario and maybe an example project which you can attach to this jira issue?
