The below change fixed the problem, but not sure how it worked on earlier
version of maven in that case.

Also I am not sure I fully understand your comment about `targetDirectory`.
Pardon for my limited knowledge about maven, but we want to generate
classes/jars in a different directory as part of build system and hence we use
the `targetDirectory` variable that gets set into `directory` property. I tried
moving `targetDirectory` into the project/properties section but the override
doesn't seem to work. The jars are now getting created inside `Java\target`
folder next to the `src` folder. Any idea?
