I have just used the maven-archetype-archetype following the article 'Guide to
Creating Archetypes' and I have noticed that the given directory structure
under archetype/src/main/resources/META-INF/archetype.xml should read
archetype/src/main/resources/META-INF/maven/archetype.xml.
