Thank you for the answer - that makes sense. Using files probably is an easy way out. stdin is ideal since as I mentioned it’s possible in most IDEs to format without saving. It may well be that biting the bullet and just writing to a temporary file somewhere to do the formatting is still much better than the overhead of repeatedly invoking Maven, so I will give it a try. I see on the issue you linked there’s a comment from you from 2022 saying this functionality is blocked. Is that still the case?
