I do not get, how the [referenced
project](https://github.com/khmarbaise/simple-jdk9-maven) of @khmarbaise may be
used to enforce the `IllegalArgumentException` as it does not explicitly use
m-jmod-p? How was m-jmod-p called for this exception?
Additionally, the project has other problems (using a m-jlink-p SNAPSHOT,
while there is a newer version already available). I guess it is just too old?

That being said, I also run into an `IllegalArgumentException` with m-jmod-p
in the currently released version `3.0.0-alpha-1` when calling `mvn
jmod:create` (implicitly called by `mvn package`). I could provide a small
sample project if desired. However, the exception does not occur any more with
a current SNAPSHOT of m-jmod-p (based on
eb1579df2de5af4c578d609a88d81006115ed0c0). Therefore, I suggest to add a
(simple) integration test (for the create goal) and to release a new version
occasionally.
