Still valid: the RepositorySystem resolveArtifact javadoc still declares no IllegalArgumentException and ArtifactRequest performs no fail-fast validation, so the IAE only surfaces from deep inside resolution — user impact is recorded in the cross-referenced #1290 (jbang).
