This PR targets master, so 4.1.0. But we want to backport it, so we'll need another PR that will target 4.0.0-rc-7. I think this looks better than having a PR targeting master with a rc-7 milestone. I used to do that, but this means changing the milestone at merge time anyway. Unless we want to keep both PRs at milestone rc-7.
