Closing as superseded: [`ForkedMavenExecutor.mavenVersion()`](https://github.com/apache/maven-executor/blob/main/maven-executor/src/main/java/org/apache/maven/executor/forked/ForkedMavenExecutor.java) in maven-executor runs `--version --quiet`, which is the approach proposed here; maven-executor requires Maven 3.9 or later, so the 3.8 concern from this thread no longer applies.
