`ArtifactContext.getPomModel()` and `ArtifactLocator.locate()` parse POMs with maven-model 3.9.16's `MavenXpp3Reader`. That reader brings in plexus-utils 3.6.1, and both classes catch its `XmlPullParserException`. Maven 4's `org.apache.maven.model.v4.MavenStaxReader` (in `org.apache.maven:maven-support`) returns the immutable `org.apache.maven.api.model.Model` and does not use plexus-utils. Moving to it needs: - **Java 17**: the Maven 4 classes are compiled for 17, while indexer-core targets 11 (branch `java-17-baseline`). - **A Maven 4 GA release**: the latest is 4.0.0-rc-7. - **An API decision**: `getPomModel()` is public and returns the Maven 3 `org.apache.maven.model.Model`. Changing its return type breaks callers, so either add a method returning the Maven 4 model and deprecate this one, or wait for 8.0 (#479). With this, #798, and `IndexCreatorSorter` using a small topological sort instead of plexus-utils `DAG`, plexus-utils could leave indexer-core entirely. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
