Reproduced with 590 modules under a 4-level parent chain whose parents are not reactor modules: each child rebuilt its parent project, and each rebuild re-read the whole chain (5,912 POM reads for `clean -pl :parent`). rc-6 behaves the same, so this is a Maven 4 vs 3 difference rather than an rc-7 regression.
