Reproduced with 400 modules that each depend on 9 others (`-T1C compile`, `-Xmx512m`): rc-7 fails with the same `OutOfMemoryError` in `PathConflictResolver$Path.addChildren`. rc-7 made the path conflict resolver the default (#12893); resolver 2.0.24 fixes this OOM (apache/maven-resolver#2153) and `maven-4.0.x` already ships it, and the same build passes there. Until the next release, `aether.conflictResolver.impl = classic` in `.mvn/maven-user.properties` (or `-Daether.conflictResolver.impl=classic`) restores the rc-6 behaviour.
