slachiewicz opened a new pull request, #1429:
URL: https://github.com/apache/maven-javadoc-plugin/pull/1429

Removes two checks of the plugin's own JVM that every supported runtime
passes (the floor is Java 8): the `-Xdoclint` guard against 1.8, with the two
`addArgIf`/`addArgIfNotEmpty` overloads only it or nothing used, and the Apple
JDK 1.6 branch when locating the javadoc executable. `JavadocJarMojoTest` drops
its branches for javadoc 1.6 and 1.7, which no CI job reaches.

Checks of the javadoc tool's version (`javadocRuntimeVersion`) are
untouched, and so is the `--add-stylesheet` guard, which still matters on a
Java 8 or 9 runtime.

   Verified: `mvn -B verify` → Tests run: 73, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped:
9; checkstyle, RAT and spotless pass
