OK, it's actually a Plexus thing. The {{ComponentDescriptor}} in the newer
plexus-container-default defaults the role hint to "default" while older
versions used null. In turn, the {{plexus.xml}} generated by the
plexus-maven-plugin declares the role hint as "default" which does no longer
match the Plexus configuration used by the unit test which omitted the
{{<roleHint>}} element.
