POM reference not discuss configuration merging

I was reading this:

Using Maven 2.2.1, is it still supported? Is there a better option? It's tough
to tell since the property is not mentioned by any docs.
My recommendation is to add the "combine.children" attribute to the POM
reference (/pom.html) with possible values and behavior.
