The source-release descriptor itself has been fixed in
[r827803|http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=827803]. The
Assembly Plugin needed to be updated to use a fixed version of plexus-utils in
[r827805|http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=827805].
