Works here and given the level of basic functionallity we talk about (clean)
for a bunch of other peoples that use the alphas. So this appears more like an
environmental issue on your side. Anyways, impossible to help without a
complete debug log or a demo project. In case of network issues, I suggest you
contact the [user list|http://maven.apache.org/mail-lists.html] for help with
the network setup.
