In Maven 2.x, the version comparison consideres 1.0.0-alpha-12 < 1.0.0-alpha-9.
This has been fixed in Maven 3.x. However, even in Maven 3.x the example
project will not work because 1.0.0-alpha-12 < 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT (as per MNG-2281).
