I have checked the issue and couldn't reproduce the issue. Therefor I have
created a sample project
https://github.com/khmarbaise/massembly/tree/master/massembly-108 which can be
used to discuss the problem.
This example uses maven-assembly-plugin 2.4 and it proves that empty folders
are handled correct by maven-assembly-plugin.
May be i misunderstand a thing here in the discussion or a wish you have, but
if you see it different please use the example project to reproduce the issue
and send pull request (or patches) to the given project so we get nail down the
problem.
