It might very well be the only case where it fails, but {{./configure
--with-protobuf=}} will call {{AC_CHECK_TOOL([PROTOCOMPILER_TEST]\, [protoc],
[], [$PROTOBUFPREFIX/bin])}} where {{PROTOBUFPREFIX}} is empty, thus only
searching in {{/bin}} and failing.
