The current design of the allocator code does not degrade gracefully when the 
load increases, that goes against how we'd like the software to behave. That is 
why I'd like us to fix the design first. When talking about simplicity, we also 
have to think about the users: requiring that users have to tune flags to get 
the desired performance from the allocator doesn't sound very "simple". :)
