After much investigation I found that the bootstrap implementation is, well,
not ideal.
This issue is conflated with the Sphinx sidebar modifications that grab
entities from the right sidebar, kill the right sidebar, and add entities to
the left nav. Many hidden js functions are doing stuff at document.ready which
probably shouldn't since bootstrap doesn't know what's going on, how long the
pages is, and only judges based on the main content.
I've tried a bunch of routes to fix this and failed. It might need a complete
rewrite from the Sphinx theme level to the UI.
There are some even better layout tools that should be investigated, so there's
less of this UI hacking.
