The main project README.md includes a number of historical links and examples
that should be updated or removed.
Beyond updating existing information, project details should be streamlined to
focus on the basic steps for building and running the application. Additional
details for subprojects can be provided using links.
Project badges should also be updated to include more prominent links to
resources for submitting issues and interacting with the community.
