Note: The 1st commit introduces new method using generics revision, but
still has the old APIs just for backward compatibility. The 2nd commit removes
old methods and refactored fully.
I think since this interface is still new and usage is very limited, we can
refactor it fully, and prefer to do so (by merging the 1st and 2nd commits).
