I do think this is an ambitious feature idea. While not close to solving the
problem stated here, you can clean up the connection lines by double clicking
on the lines to add navigation points and drag them to avoid or reduce
intersections.
I'll open a separate Jira for another idea I just had -- selecting a component
highlights (without selecting) all of its upstream and downstream connections
to help illustrate where the data is flowing.
