Mark Payne created NIFI-4737:
--------------------------------

Summary: NiFi takes long time to startup if it has a large content
repository
                 Key: NIFI-4737
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-4737
             Project: Apache NiFi
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: Mark Payne
            Assignee: Mark Payne

When NiFi starts up, it scans the Content Repository to find the oldest files
in the archive. It does this so that it knows which files to age off first. For
many situations, this doesn't pose a problem. However, for an installation that
has a huge content archive, it can take a really long time. Worse yet, there
are no logs indicating what is going on.

We should first log what is happening. Then, we should be smarter about making
the startup times quick. Since we know the information while NiFi is running,
we should write the information to a file each time that we sweep old data from
the archive. This way, on startup, we can simply read that file and move on
instead of scanning a potentially large number of files, which can take a while.
