It would provide the simplest way for a user to easily align components (if they're particular about it). Holding Shift can can then deactivate that behavior, providing the user with greater precision. Re: the changed dimensions -- understand your point. I'd say there are likely some adjustments that could be made. I'd need more time to go through every component and make recommendations.
