Preventing loss of configuration is absolutely a sensible reason, although I
think it's pretty difficult to accidentally lose something as the user needs
to apply the settings after ticking the empty checkbox. That's just personal
preference though, I can live with that.
However the fact that we allow applying an inconsistent configuration (empty
checked while value is present) is not so nice in my opinion, an error message
would be nicer than "fixing" this in the background silently.
