I will update the [Contributor Guide](https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NIFI/Contributor+Guide) and [PR template](https://github.com/apache/nifi/blob/master/.github/PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE.md) to make clear that while we desire the _initial_ commit of a PR to be cleanly squashed, further commits in response to PR comments should be made by pushing to the same branch to allow reviewers to track the changes. The eventual committer will squash and rebase the commits when merging. Sorry for the confusion.
