This very same option can be found in the "Options" dialog from a Writer document: menu "Tools" - "Options...". On the left tree select "OpenOffice.org Writer" - "Print". In the right you'll find under "Other" the check box "Paper tray from printer settings". This options are applied globally to all Writer documents.
