Mailmerge was working perfectly on an unknown version prior to 3.4.1 update. I
do not have a record of prior version. The reported problems were resolved by
reverting to the legacy 3.3 version.
Problem description: Mailmerge database has 107 documents to email. The
preview screen - when paging through the merged letters with the right arrow,
function stops at 10, as if there are only 10 records, but when "next" is
selected, all
107 records are built, and can be saved as a single merged document.
When one attempts to email these records, the status bar is erratic, moving in
spurts, and stops prior to completion. Once it stopped at 15, once at 45,
several times at 50, but never completed all 107. When it stops like this, the
"stop button" is greyed out, like it believes the process finished normally,
and one can "close" the email progress window. However, the cursor is now an
hourglass on the underlying wizard screen, but even with this hourglass, one
can "finish" the wizard and then everything appears normal. However, not all
emails were delivered, in some cases the number was as low as 2 out of the
claimed 50.
Reverting to legacy Open office version 3.3.0 appears to have solved the
problems identified above, returning the system to smooth and proper
functioning as before the upgrade. The "merged record preview" function works
again, showing as many, or all, of the 107 records as desired. The send email
function works properly, stepping through all 107 email records, terminating
correctly, back to the merge wizard when selecting "close". All 107 email
messages were delivered correctly.
This entire scenario has been confirmed on two different PC's, one running
WinXP, the other Win7, with the same database and merge document.
The merge document is an ODT file with embedded merge fields. The database
document is an ODS file mail list.
