Andrew Lincoln, 1/31/2013.
I was able to replicate this bug using OpenOffice 3.4.1 [AOO341m1 (Build:9593)
– Rev. 1372282] on a Windows 7 Enterprise (Service Pack 1, 32-bit) Dell
Optiplex 990.
Shift + Backspace stops typing in the cell but keeps the current cell selected
so when the user enters more text, the cell's contents are overwritten.
Pressing Enter will stop typing in the current cell and select the cell in the
row below it. Users can get the original text back (from before pressing Shift
+ Backspace) by selecting another cell and either pressing Ctrl + Z or clicking
on the Undo button. It would be interesting to see if this bug can be
replicated on different keyboard layouts and/or using different language
setups.
This bug is important because users can lose data if they do not know how to
get back to their original text. As noted before, this behavior is different
from a wide range of other applications and will confuse users.
