While in principle it is of course a good idea to get inspirations from other projects, this case is different. This 11yr, 2mo old bug about a missing basic functionality is a symbol, a tribute to everything that is wrong with the OO project. Killing (fixing) this bug could endanger everything OO stands for (decay, unwillingness to compete with MS Office).
