Bug ID: 123004
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: OO upgrade from OO 3.4 to OO 4.0 blocked by
QuickStarter, which can't be cleared/uninstalled
Product: Installation
Version: 4.0.0
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 7
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P3
Component: ui
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
The upgrade to OO 4.0 from OO 3.4 was blocked by a message stating that
QuickStarter needed to be cleared first. I couldn't figure out how to do that.
I saw no icon for it in the Windows Task Tray. In Windows Task Manager,
Quickstarter does not appear as an Application, Process, or Service. It wasn't
listed in MSConfig as a Startup Option. It wasn't on the Windows Control Panel
list of programs which can be uninstalled. (I even tried uninstalling all of
OO 3.4 here, but was blocked from doing so by the same message).
There is a checkbox in OO 3.4 preferences (Tools, Options, OpenOffice, Memory)
for enabling/disabling Quickstarter. But clearing that checkbox doesn't get
rid of that upgrade message, even after reboot.
The only thing that worked was to log on as Administrator and manually delete
the QuickStarter executable (C:\Program Files
(x86)\OpenOffice\Programs\QuickStarter.exe), reboot, then run the upgrade
install again.
I don't know if I missed something, or if other users are encountering the same
frustrating problem. But perhaps this information will help. I couldn't find
prior documentation of this problem.
(In general, thanks so much for OO!)
