Bug ID: 123180
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Inadequate documentation to continue where libreoffice
has symlink soffice set up
Product: Installation
Version: 4.0.0
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: ui

The main documentation on how to install openoffice on linux at
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Installation/How_do_I_install_OpenOffice.org_on_Linux%3F
makes reference to a conflict with libreoffice:
If this is symlinked to libreoffice, remove the symlink. (see your favorite
reference for how to do this). This will NOT remove LibreOffice, this will only
disallow LibreOffice to redirect the normal OpenOffice binary -- typically
/usr/bin/soffice -- to libreoffice instead.
I have this issue on the latest version of Linux Mint (15) as I already have
libreoffice installed, and I want to keep it there and install open office
alongside.
However the documentation does not say how to resolve this. Having now wasted
well over an hour of my time searching for how to do this, trying alternatives,
and continuing to get a package install error (dpkg: error processing
operoffice4.0-debian-menus_4.0-9702_all.deb (--install): trying to overwrite
'/usr/bin/soffice' which is also in package libreoffice-common 1:4.0.2-0ubuntu1
), I have got nowhere. Please include absolutely explicit instructions on how
to resolve this on the wiki installation page. I am now extremely fed up and
angry with your product. All I want to do is to try runnning your version of
calc to see if it solves a particular excel compatibility bug I have with
libreoffice, but I cannot even find out how to run calc from the terminal if
necessary, even though it appears to have installed OK. This installation
issue on the last stage of desktop integration installation is completely
stopping progress for me.
