Rainer Bielefeld <[email protected]> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |rainerbielefeld_ooo_qa@biel | |efeldundbuss.de Version|4.0.0 |3.4.0 Summary|Couldn't open |Fails to open .docx with |Word97-2003-file |wrong name extension .doc --- Comment #3 from Rainer Bielefeld <[email protected]> --- Reproducible with "AOO 4.0.1 RC2 – German UI / German locale [AOO401m5(Build:9714) - Rev. 1523756 2013-09-16 20:50:21]" on German German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", Common 4.0-dev User Profile. When I try to open the document via Menu 'File -> Open' (does not matter whether AOO or OS dialog) I see message as shown in Edwin's screenshot. a) I looked into the document code, looks strange. a1) the typical strings "Microsoft Word-Dokument" and "Word.Document.8" are missing, and everything looks more like .docx. b) And indeed, when I rename reporter's sample to template.docx it will be opened without problems. c) And when in AOO File Open Dialog I - select document type "MS WORD 2007 XML (*.docx) - Filename *.* -> [ok] so that "template.doc" appears - select "template.doc" -> [ok] > The document will be opened without problems d) I doubt that that is a feature, AOO should be tolerant with such user errors. f) not a new problem, already reproducible with AOO 3.4.0 and OOo 3.3.0, so inherited from OOo. g) With OOo 3.1.1 behavior was a little different, that version recognizes that something is wrong with the document and opens the file open filter selection dialog, what is elaborate, but acceptable So this report has 2 parts: h) Bug: AOO should offer the file open filter selection dialog if it sees that name extension and document contents do not match instead of directly showing the error message. Error message would be appropriate if document code still does not match with selected file type in filter dialog when user opens document from filter i) Enhancement request: AOO should ignore wrong file name extensions and automatically use the correct filter (may be with a message: Recognized document type xyz, open as that document type?" j) Competitors: j1) LibO 3.3.3 also suffered from that problem, but current versions open reporter's sample without problems as correct file type j2) SoftMaker FreeOffice: opens reporter's sample without problems j3) Calligra: opens reporter's sample without problems j4) Lotus Symphony Release 3.0.1 Revision 20120110.2000 : opens reporter's sample without problems So AOO does the worst job here. There is an additional "Missing graphic" problem, I will submit an additional report. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. You are the assignee for the bug.
