I am sorry to re-open this bug, but this issue is DEFINITELY there!

I also reported this to the “Libre Office” branch and they confirmed it too:

https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=58547

It is not about “the cursor blinking” but that the cursor is sometimes
overriding the selection border, giving it a yellow coat of paint.

Another example for reproduction:

1. Open a new, empty Writer document. Default font (Times New Roman, Font size
12).

2. Write in there the two words “Open Office”

3. Go with the cursor to the end of the line (behind the word “Office”)

4. Now hold the left mouse button and move the mouse cursor back to the left to
select the text part “pen Office”

You will see that the cursor is blinking normally between the selection border
and “pen”.

6. Go back with the cursor to the end of the line (behind “Office”)

7. Now hold the left mouse button and move the mouse cursor back to the left to
select this time the text part “ffice”

You will see that this time the cursor is overriding the selection border
before the first “f” of “ffice”, resulting in a yellow coat of paint of the
selection border.

See also the new example pictures.
