Of course I can provoke to get a date in cell F84, but I never failed to get the desired result with cell contents as date, text or number. EXCEPT: (a) higuita's observation is correct. With OOo 2.0.3 I can reproduce his result that cell contents of columns not shown in initial view will not be forced to text mode with his proceeding. that still is the same in latest 4.1.0-dev (where we additionally have the "detect special numbers" option. (b) But is that a bug? All visible Columns work correctly with associated formatting. So there might be a "<control+a> should select all visible contents and not only visible columns, but that has nothing to do with number format or number recognition.
