Bug ID: 123736
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Attempt to update extensions ends up with "The host
name localhost could not be resolved"
Product: Installation
Version: 4.0.1
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 7
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: update notifications
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Since I moved to OpenOffice 4 the extension manager and update icon always
creates a dialog with this message "The host name localhost could not be
resolved."
I searched the forums and the web in general and did not find this issue.
There is a section below called "Twist" that might be enlightening.
I do not have many extensions and this never happened with OpenOffice.org 3
releases.
Clarification:
OpenOffice.org and the extensions I have work fine!
I just cannot update the extensions!
Extension Status and Info:
I have not been able to update any of my extensions.
The installed extensions are:
American English Spelling Check 1.0
Canadian English Spelling, Hyphenation, and Thesaurus 2.0.0
English spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus
OpenCards 1.5.1
Professional Template Pack II - English 1.0
PDF importer 1.0.4 (Oracle, has message "Error: The status of this extension is
unknown", click on it offers "Enable" but given the error who knows if it is
disabled or not)
Useful details:
Windows 7 latest updates as of 21 November 2013
Java 7 latest update and JavaFX also
OpenOffice.org
AOO401m5(Build:9714) - Rev. 1524958
2013-09-20 11:40:29 (Fr, 20 Sep 2013)
Twist:
I use Windows junctions to point to the newest releases of all software so that
I do not have to change anything other than the junction when there is a new
release the software I use.
THIS HAS CAUSED NETBEANS PROBLEMS AND THEY HAVE ACCEPTED A BUG ON THAT.
I am not at all sure this applies but it is mentioned for completeness.
The lack of mention on the web seemed to make this important but I do not think
it is.
Log Files:
I looked in
C:\Users\gep\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user
for some log files but did not see any.
Did not look further figuring you would tell me where they are and ask for
them.
Configuration:
Ran cygwin's
"find . -type f |xargs grep localhost | grep -v Binary |less"
in the top level OpenOffice.org associated directories but that turned up too
many hits to be of use.
