The setting whether a window is shown maximized or not, is independent of the setting for other windows, not only between AOO and other applications, but also between documents in AOO, even between two text documents. Test it. You can switch the documents in the menu "Window". And even the operating system feature to overlap or show side-by-side is only applied to one group of open windows, not to other application windows in another group, at least not in Windows.
