If I do the same thing in MS Word, the pointer changes to an arrow as soon as I go beyond the margin and one click selects the line the arrow is beside. Two clicks select the paragraph. If I move the pointer, in Writer, off the page, the pointer changes to an arrow and clicks appear to have no effect.
