So it is no wonder that two, or probably more, modules use it. There is no module which 'owns' that name :-) Otherwise we would have to do a lot of renaming in the slideshow/ module. Regarding the actual problem. The slideshow in its current form has always had problems with animations that don't take place in the front layer. If there is a layer in front of the animated layer then it sometimes fails to handle the overlap. There is no single bug source.
