Issue ID: 124994
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Crash on scrolling through large document with many
images
Product: Writer
Version: 4.1.0
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 7
Status: CONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P3
Component: viewing
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
When I open a document with many pages and many different images this document
it is initially shown on its last page. If I then slowly scroll up through the
document, about halfway or 2/3 through AOO will instantly crash (aka
disappear). On the next start a document recovery is done.
When opening AOO takes ~1.2 GB of memory, obviously keeps all images in
memory(!) After scrolling a bit this increases steadily up to ~1.6 GB, which is
the point when A00 gives up. A 32 bit memory issue maybe?
This is 100% reproducible with my sample document, which I can of course not
attach because it is 16MB and therefore > 1MB ...
I therefore uploaded it to my GMX media center where you can download it from:

It is called TestbookWithLotsOfImages.odt and was created with LibO I believe.
Tested on Win7 64Bit and 8GB memory.
----
P.S.
It is a big disappointment but after years of reporting problems with large
files for AOO (and f.e. issue 118725 still open) this software is still far
from being usable for a use case like creating larger books containing several
images.
Maybe one reason is that such issues are seldom confirmed because large sample
documents are rare because they simply cannot be attached to this bug tracker
conveniently. And maybe working with large documents with many images is not
part of the test parcours prior to every release?
Luckily, the LibO 4.2.4 fork has already gotten rid of most of these bugs,
including bugs like this one.
