The comment by [email protected] prompted me to try something else. I have not found any extension to apply and then I tried to uninstall open office, install version 3.4.1 and repeat the test: everything worked properly. I then installed the version 4.1.0 instead of the 3.4.1 version and I repeated the test: everything worked properly. So I can confirm that this is not a problem in Open Office but the reported problem derives from some alteration in the configuration of the system that are not due to open office.
