Do you have enabled generating backups in Tools > Options > Load/Save > General? Then you might find a previous version in the folder, which is listed in Tools > Options > Paths > Backup. The attached file has filename extension .rtf. You should avoid using alien formats, but always save in the native format of an application. Only in the very last step convert it, if the recipient insists on a special file format. I close the issue, because without any hint, what has happened, there is nothing that can be "fixed".
