I can reproduce this bug with:

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1
AOO411m6(Build:9775) - Rev. 1617669
2014-08-13 09:06:54 (Mi, 13 Aug 2014)
Windows 8.0

DISCLAIMER: the report doesn’t specify where the PPT-file is located on his
harddrive, so I went and put it in the same directory as the WAV-file

1. Plug in USB drive
2. Make the drive letter match F:
3. Open cmd.exe mkdir “F:\Documenti\MATERIALE FORMAZIONE 2014\lezioni prima
parte\audio lez 12 nuova\”
4. Download https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=83960 and extract
it into the freshly created directory.
5. Open the PPT with Impress
6. Press F5 for presentation mode
7. Click the loudspeaker image (no sound is played)
8. Click the loudspeaker image again (presentation ends)

If I open the presentation with MS Powerpoint 2010, and have the ppt + the wav
in the same directory, sound can be played as expected. I consider this a bug
in Impress.

Audio and video are a long standing annoyance in presentations. Many know the
feeling of working on a presentation, then trying to present on a different
computer only to find out the audio/video doesn’t work. To be honest I was
surprised to learn that it did work properly in 2010, even when I tried in
C:\temp

Since the F:-drive could be inconvenient, I have created a new sample in
C:\temp and I have attached the result as a ZIP-file.

1. Create a new empty presentation
2. Title: 125633
3. Insert Audio > Audio from File... > dia.wav (original WAV-file, renamed)
4. Save As > 125633.ppt

It seems that linked sound is not portable from PPT to Impress 4.1.1 and that
would constitute a serious bug, keeping people from migrating to Impress, like
the reporter already indicated.
