Issue ID: 126150
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Mac OS X 10.9.5 (Maverick) using miniMac cannot use my
AOO old 4.0.1 and 4.1.1 new install
Product: Installation
Version: 4.1.0
Hardware: Mac
OS: Mac OSX, 10.9
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P5
Component: update notifications
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
All my files and records are produced on the AOO 4.0.1 version. I like AOO very
much and want to continue using it. Actually I am in a rather serious situation
as I'm job searching and currently unable to access any of my resumes,
credentials, etc., due to this problem.
I was unable to open my files (this had happened before and an AOO update fixed
it), but because I couldn't find an AOO update to fix this second shut-out, I
downloaded the newest version, 4.1.1.
This is the Mac message when I try to open the 4.0.1 AOO application:
"The application “OpenOffice” can’t be opened.
-1712"
The 4.1.1 installation is held in the Download menu on the top of my screen and
when I try to open it, the Mac message reads as follows:
“OpenOffice” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.
Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App
Store and identified developers.
“OpenOffice” is on the disk image
“Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_MacOS_x86-64_install_en-US-3.dmg”. Safari downloaded
this disk image today at 9:07 PM from sourceforge.net."
Using the Mac Finder, when I was attempting other methods to open the AOO, the
READ information from AOO specifies the following re Java:
"OpenOffice requires a recent version of JAVA for full functionality; JAVA can
be downloaded from http://java.com."
I believe we are advised not to download Java due to its unreliability in the
past - it became a portal for Trojan Horse and thesafemac.com advised against
Java because consequences were too serious for Mac users who in the past didn't
have major problems with viruses.
As I am not particularly brilliant at understanding the mechanics of computing,
I would deeply appreciate specific advice (in an easy to understand way, if
possible) to solve this critical problem. And thank you in advance for your
assistance. I have checked possible duplicate problem and am unable to find one
similar to mine.
