So I started to rebuild from the old one until I found two add-ons that caused the problem. One, a search add-on from 2007, and another a Language Tool. A quick look at the website of the Language tool revealed that it is designed for LibreOffice!!! Now, IMHO, it is a sign of poor design if a new version does not check for add-ons compatibility.
