Please look at section 3.1 in "English Style Guide" (link above in URL). It
says, "stops (. ? ! : ;) are always followed by only a single (not a double)
space."

There is no exception for monospaced fonts.

space was taught for writing English on typewriters in some countries about 50
years ago.
