The behavior what you described is not typical. AOO works fine for many
users with OS X Yosemite (10.10).

A very large proportion of crashes in OpenOffice are cured by deleting or
renaming the User Profile. Details about it are given in:

Try to upgrade your operating system with the last version.

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future.
