Issue ID: 126755
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Support for the ancient .hwp file format was retired.
Product: Writer
Version: 4.1.2
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 (lowest)
Component: save-export
Assignee: [email protected]

The assumption that "this is an ancient file format that nobody uses" is not
correct. I live and work in Korea. hwp is alive and well and hardly ancient
except perhaps in the United States. Since there are more Korean speakers than
French speakers in world you might reconsider this anglo-centric change to the
software. HangulWriter is a currently supported software in the Korean speaking
world which Open Office also supports.
I use Hancom software that reads and writes this format natively on my Android.
My teachers all use this format.
Google:
filetype:hwp
filetype:hwp site:kr
filetype:hwp site:ac.kr

Note the comment that it is widely used by the government. I have found this to
be true when using Korean Government websites. Converting present and future
content to odt format is a formidable task.
A major reason for using OpenOffice here is that it supports reading and
writing hwp.
Please put this back in.
